Glynn Sits Down With Reporter Oliver Hartleben

OH: Do you agree with Governor Fraser that military interventions abroad cannot be ruled out when national security of the US is at risk?

KG: I certainly agree with the Governor that military force cannot be used just wiliy-nilly…As the commander-in-chief, but there are so many means before military intervention that can be used to guarantee that security. And security in our day and age means so much than just guns and bullets. My belief is that our nation is not really secure unless we are able to educate our children, our nation is not really secure if we are not able to control the environmental destruction, and free ourselves from these fuel sources that not only pollute us but and hamper our foreign policy. I believe that we are not secure if one in five children goes to sleep hungry at night. So I think security is so much more than just military might.

Now, as a fellow veteran, I certainly appreciate his point of view that…ask anyone: people who have been in the military are probably the closest thing to true pacifists you’ll ever find, because we are the people who understand the actual personal cost of putting the military into harms way. I think that, as a military veteran myself, I was actually deployed in Iraq, when the Governor graduated from the Naval Academy in 2003. As a fellow veteran, I share that personal insight into what military service means, and what deploying into a war actually means, and certainly that will be in my mind when I have to make those decisions as a President, but I won’t hesitate to use military force when it’s necessary, but it certainly will not be my first choice.

OH: Do you share Joe’s opinion that your experience in the military gives you a better edge in handling foreign issues?

KG: Well I think, in my case, I am not only a military veteran, but I am also a serving Senator and I am on the Foreign Relations Committee in the Senate, so that definitely gives me a leg up as far as foreign relations goes. Massachusetts is a large State, and I suppose it has its fair amount of foreign policy—the Governor was recently in Afghanistan and India, and I commend him for that—but I think that more than my military service, that gives me a lot of insight into the use of the military, but that is a single facet of foreign policy, and I think that my current position as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee speaks more for my understanding of foreign US policy.

OH: In what respect would you differentiate yourself from Joe?

KG: Well, that’s a great question…Like I said, I definitely agree with the Governor that being a veteran, having military service does provide insight; absolutely, it’s an insight that you cannot have without actually haven’t served and been in harm’s way, and certainly when a Commander-in-Chief is also a veteran making the decision to send troops in, he or she will have a better understanding of what that actually means, how this does this affect the servicemen and their families at home and their communities at large and on and on. But as I said, my greatest asset as far foreign policy goes, comes from my work in the Senate…I have served on this Committee now for two terms; that is the definite strength that I believe I bring to this.

Also, as we have seen in Washington DC today, the Executive and the Legislative, they go back and forth a lot, there is a lot of bad blood. I believe that having experience in the Legislative branch, as I do—while I definitely respect the Governor’s executive experience in the State of Massachusetts—, I believe having that experience on the Hill is something that I can bring to bear to bridge that gap and make things actually get done, hopefully, in Washington.

Glynn Visits Newport News Shipyards, Meets with Union Workers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

VIRGINIA—Presidential candidate Kate Glynn visited the Newport News Shipyard today to speak with union workers about how a tough economy and deteriorating American shipping industry is affecting their lives. Glynn, whose grandfather was a ship builder at that very shipyard, assured the workers that she felt their pain.

“We know what it’s like to have to work hard to make ends meet. Unlike some of my opponents, folks like us weren’t born with a silver spoon in our mouths. But you won’t hear us crying. All we want is a chance and a fair shake. And that’s what I’ll do as president. I’ll bring back opportunity. I’ll bring back the belief that, if you play by the rules and work hard, you get to live a safe and comfortable life.” Glynn said.

From the shipyard, Glynn traveled to Hamilton Public School in Washington D.C. to meet with teachers and schoolchildren.

Glynn Campaign via Chatzigakis responds to Olarte's Economic Plan

Michael Chatzigakis, Group 10

For immediate Release,

April 18, 2011

“It’s the economy, Fabian!!”

Throughout this campaign candidate Olarte has shown his lack of knowledge in economic affairs. Olarte has a vague economic plan which is full of generalizations while telling us nothing concrete about his future economic plans. What will Olarte do with the declining housing market? He gave no answer. What is Olarte’s position regarding the Big Bonuses in Wall Street? What has Olarte said about financial regulation so far? He did not even address these issues in any of his speeches.

What will Olarte do about the Nation’s most vulnerable? He said nothing about that as well. How is he planning to decrease unemployment? Obviously, he has no plan whatsoever. What is candidate’s Olarte position regarding the appreciated yuan which puts our country into a competitive disadvantage in trade? We are only days from the election and the public is still wondering. What is candidate Olarte’s plan regarding taxes? We don’t know yet - if he has a plan. What is candidate Olarte’s plan for a reduction in oil dependency? He has no plan.

The only thing that candidate Olarte said or did about economic policy is to sell fries at a local McDonald’s. Our country needs a President that will have a strong understanding and a concrete plan regarding economic policy. Our economy has gone through one of the most painful and severe recessions since the Second World War. The next President of the United States will not stand behind a register and serve fries but he/she will need to comprehend and appreciate the various fundamentals of the current economic situation and how to deal with the complex economic problems our country is facing.

Kate Glynn has spoken extensively about economic issues throughout her campaign and provided a clear and concrete plan regarding our future economic challenges. Glynn is able to provide solutions and deliver results that will help Americans to find a job, to pay for their houses, to be able to send their children to college, and to have sufficient health coverage.

GLYNN Campaign via Chatzigakis responds to Rotman's Economic Plan

Michael Chatzigakis, Group 10

For immediate release,

April 18, 2011

“It’s the Economy, Daniel!!!”

It has now become clear that the main issue of these elections is the economy. Our country has gone through one of the most severe recessions in its recent history. Our debt and our deficit are at sky-high levels. Governor Rotman, following Governor Schwarzenegger, has destroyed California with their economic policies. California is on the brink of bankruptcy due to Governor’s Rotman fiscal irresponsibility. The unemployment rate is at a 12.5%, contrary to what Governor Rotman claims, and for that you can take a look at the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics. Governor Rotman has said that the joblessness was at 6%. He lied. Governor Rotman has lied repeatedly in his campaign about his economic record. California is at its worst state ever because of his failed economic policies. A senior citizen in California, Gregor Pitsilides, said that “When I hear Governor’s Rotman name, fiscal irresponsibility comes to my mind. It is a joke that he runs on a platform of fiscal responsibility when he created that mess in California’s finances”.

What will Governor Rotman do with the declining housing market? California has experienced one of the most severe recessions and the housing market has reached all-time lows. But Governor Rotman not only did not undertake any action to deal with this problem in his state, but he also never addressed the issue in any of his speeches. It is now clear that Governor Rotman has no plan on how to deal with this critical problem whatsoever.

Kate Glynn has stressed from the first moment of her campaign that she will provide a responsible economic plan to deal with the housing market. This plan will include a project that will protect any more Americans from losing their homes. Because hard working Americans must have a right to affordable housing, Glynn proposes the enhancement of the Obama Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), which created a fund for preventing foreclosures, by doubling the amount of the funds and also putting a moratorium for a certain period of time until middle class Americans get back on their feet.

Moreover, Governor Rotman did not even mention what he will do with Wall Street’s big bonuses and financial regulation. The main reason why our economy is in this mess is because of the reckless and irresponsible behavior in Wall Street. However, Governor Rotman is probably benefiting from his silence in this issue, and that is the reason why he is first in fundraising – the majority of his donations come from big business.

Kate Glynn has stressed the importance of a general overhaul of the financial system, contrary to the tremendous pressure she received from lobbyists, and she proposed a reform that will increase accountability and transparency for financial institutions. “Taxpayers should never again be in the position to pay for the irresponsible actions of Wall Street,” Glynn said at a rally on Friday.

Based on his past economic record and on his campaign, it is clear that Governor Rotman is incapable of leading the U.S. economy out of one of its greatest recessions in the last 100 years. Our country needs a President that will be able to comprehend and appreciate the various fundamentals of the current economic situation and how to deal with the complex economic problems our country is facing. Glynn is able to provide solutions and deliver results that will help Americans to find a job, to pay for their houses, to be able to send their children to college, and to have sufficient health coverage.

Kate Glynn on target for education

Kate Glynn's focus in education regarding quality and accesibility cleary proves her experienced vision toward securing America's future. Opportunities are needed for all to have a quality education. We feel that Glynn's plan will deliver the results needed. After analyzing the proposed agenda, we can observe that it is a clear and detailed set of steps that brings the community together with governement toward improving conditions both for teachers and students. It is true that the US has a limited amount of indivuduals achieving a high school or college education, a plan needs to be put in place that will change this and, in turn, increase opportunities for all Americans

Kate Glynn Focused on Educational Access and Quality

(Cambridge, MA) For Immediate Release

Candidate Kate Glynn knows that the key to a secure America is an educated America! Within ten years, sixty percent of all jobs will require a college degree. Yet, currently only one in ten children starting kindergarten will go on to graduate from college. Kate Glynn thinks that this is simply unacceptable.

Kate’s approach towards fixing our educational system is simple. She believes we must focus on quality and access. To that end, Kate pledges to:

  • Improve the quality of teachers by improving teacher training programs and publishing best practices.
  • Keep kids off the streets by allowing more non-governmental organizations to assist in running after school and summer programs.
  • Work with organizations like Share Our Strength to ensure no child is hungry in school.
  • Improve access to higher education by increasing funding for Pell Grants.
  • Reward schools engaged in innovative reform practices and spread proven new techniques around the country.
  • Change the tax code to make higher education less of a burden on the household.
Kate Glynn knows that America will be at its strongest only when all of its children are educated. She is confident that, with her leadership, American students and citizens will live a brighter tomorrow.

Kate Glynn Support Improved Health Care Choice and Access

(Nashville, TN)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kate Glynn is dedicated to America’s national security. She understands that a functioning health care system is vital to the nation’s safety and wellbeing. That is why Kate believes strongly in continuing to fix America’s broken health care system.

Kate has been and continues to be steadfast in her support of several key provisions of the current administration’s Patient Protection Affordability Care Act. However, she also knows that many Americans remain concerned about choice and access. As a mother and long time public servant, Ms Glynn recognizes the right of every American to timely and effective health care.

Many medical organizations have recognized that Kate Glynn is right on health care. She has worked in cooperation with the American Medical Association, the American Association of Retired Persons and numerous other key associations, all of which have expressed their support for her candidacy and admire her efforts to streamline the new health care law once elected.

More specifically, Kate Glynn has offered the following as her health care priorities:

· Seamless access to Medicare program of choice for retirees

· Expanded health care coverage for the uninsured in anticipation of the new law’s tiered health care coverage (which, on her platform, will include dental and prescription coverage)

· Added tax incentives for those families able to assist with in-home elder care vs nursing home placement.

· Added assistance and tax credits to dependent single working women with children.

· Tax credits in exchange for receiving preventive health vaccinations and participating in wellness programs.

Kate Glynn remains a steadfast supporter of the health care needs of our nation’s families. She has gone the extra mile to make sure that American families receive the options and benefits that they deserve.

Kate Glynn’s Economic Plan Will Boost Growth and Take Care of Nation’s Most Vulnerable

(New York, NY) For Immediate Release

Today, presidential candidate Kate Glynn announced her economic plan which focuses on boosting economic growth while at the same time taking care of the nation’s most vulnerable. Glynn’s first priority will be to create more jobs.

“In 2007 our nation witnessed the worst economic downturn since the great depression,” Glynn said. “Millions of jobs were shed, people lost their homes and large corporations experienced severe losses. Since then, we have been losing our competitive edge in key sectors of the economy. It’s time to recover.”

Glynn argued for a thorough plan for job creation that would modernize education and health care, create incentives for corporations to reinvest their profits in the economy, and enhance incentives for private enterprises to increase their domestic investments.

Glynn announced she will also promote a program that would reinforce production of alternative energy. The Glynn Plan will include better funding for clean technologies training programs and targeted policies to improve energy efficiency. She highlighted that oil imports are widening America’s already high deficit, and she pledged to give additional incentives to decrease American dependence on foreign oil.

Moreover, Glynn said that after this financial crisis it has become a necessity to reform spending and taxes; specifically Glynn proposes terminating of overgenerous benefits and wasteful spending. She also announced that she will reform taxes with a sentiment of justice that will include a reduction of taxes for low incomes, a higher taxation for bonuses in the corporate sector, and a reduction of income taxes for seniors making less than $80,000. Furthermore, Glynn’s economic plan included a project that will protect any more Americans from losing their homes. As wages decrease and jobs are shed, Americans are faced with the pressure to continue to pay their monthly mortgage installments. Because hard working Americans must have a right to affordable housing, Glynn proposes the enhancement of the Obama Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), which created a fund for preventing foreclosures, by doubling the amount of the funds and also putting a moratorium for a certain period of time until middle class Americans get back on their feet; she also pledged to expand the program that provides direct and indirect support for those who wish to buy a house or refinance their mortgage.

Finally, Glynn stressed the importance of a general overhaul of the financial system, and she proposed a reform that will increase accountability and transparency for financial institutions.

“Taxpayers should never again be in the position to pay for the irresponsible actions of Wall Street,” Glynn said. “No financial institution should be too big to fail.” In order for that to be possible in the future, Glynn argued for a further strengthening of the newly enacted mechanism that requires Wall Street, instead of taxpayers, to be responsible for bailing out these institutions if they fail in the future.

Kate Glynn for President on FACEBOOK

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Kate Glynn sits down with interviewer Amy Chan

(Atlanta, GA):

Q1: Why are you running & why should people vote for you?
A1: I offer a unique perspective in that I am both a mom (concerned with education, public safety etc.) and a veteran (vested in veterans' affairs, national security etc.) At this time, when the U.S. faces two wars and a crumbling economy that we are trying to reignite, it's important that leaders have developed perspectives on both.
---
Q2: If elected, what will your first policy priority be?
A2: That is a great question. I certainly have policy priorities of my own, but what matters is not MY priority, but the priority of our citizens. That is why, over the next few weeks, I will spend a lot of time listening, so I can figure out what "OUR" policy priority, not "mine" but "our", should be.
---
Q3: How will you overcome bipartisanship in DC? How will you "please both camps" unlike President Obama, who has been criticized by both the left and right?
A3: Another great question. I certainly don't pretend to have a magic want to cure the bipartisanvitriol that is the norm in DC. But I do think that I am unique in by ability to speak to both camps. As a veteran, I am equally comfortable speaking to more "hawkish" elements, as well as those concerned with social justice issues like marriage equality (I don't remember the exact phrasing, but she mentions marriage equality in her question). It will be a long road, but I believe I'm uniquely qualifiedto take it.
---
Q4: you campaign announcement talked about the many dangers the U.S. faces. Do you really believe that?
A4: Our campaign is about expanding the definition of "national security." The traditional definition assumes national security = guns & bombs, but the questions I pose are:
- is a nation truly secure, when it is failing to educate our children?
- is a nation truly secure, when it is reliant on old technology and polluting fuels that make it dependent on other nations?
Our announcement may have appeared a bit darker than we intended, because the "national security" we envision goes far beyond the traditional definition.
---
Q5: Your campaign announcement also talked about "killing those who intend us harm." Does this mean that you agree with the aggressive U.S. foreign policy, and will support assertive interventions overseas?
A5: No. As commander in chief, my first priority will be to ensure the safety and security of the American people. I will use whatever force necessary, lethal force if required, to guarantee that. But that does not mean that I will will-nilly expend American lives and military treasure overseas in pursuit of some foreign policy goals. When the necessity arises, I will not hesitate, but I think that any president will tell you that military force is their LAST, not first option.

Glynn Announces Candidacy, Promises to Secure Nation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Kate Glynn, an Iraq war veteran and mother of two, announced today that she is seeking the office of President of the United States.

“We should not think that securing our nation consists only of killing those that plan us harm. Just as dangerous to our national security is the threat we face from having a generation of uneducated American children. Just as dangerous to our national security is the threat of having an economy that under produces while over leveraged. Just as dangerous to our national security is having a changing environment that spawns ever more frequent and powerful natural disasters. As patriotic Americans, it is our duty to not only protect our country from evildoers but also from all threats,” Glynn said.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Glynn was a Navy helicopter pilot from 1998-2007 during Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. At home, Glynn is married to a Marine Major and is a mother of two. Glynn is also a soon to be graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
